SOCA Champs

Gentlemen,   It was indeed a pleasure for me to attend the OCA Elite Championship game held on August 2nd at Iceland ground in Mississauga. I would like to congratulate Mike Kendall and his team for putting up such a grand show. It was a day where a great game of cricket was played betweem TDCA and SOCA. The game was also attended by Mr. Wally Shaw from Barber Sports, our main sponsors and Mr. Pankaj Mehra from Bank of Nova Scotia our other sponsor of the tournament. The opening ceremony was attended by the Peel regional Police Chief Metcalfe. I would like to thank PowerPlay for giving a bat to the police Chief with signatures of both the team players and the presidents of various OCA member league presidents. I would like to thank Mr. Melvin John for this.   I would also like to particularly thank Mr. Austin John for PA system and the music. A special thank goes to our very special ladies for looking after the food and refreshments for everybody. I would particularly like to thank Rita, Lillian and Abegail.   I would particularly like to thank mr. Ranjit Chaudhry and his team from HDCL for hosting this final. The HDCL team did a superb job in making the arrangements. Thank you Mr. Chaudhry and Mr. Malik and my apologies if I have failed to mention anybody else. You guys are great hosts.   I would also like to thank all the league presidents for being at the final with their players. It showed the solidarity that we have in Ontario cricket. The spirit of cooperation amongst all must be commended.   TDCA batted first and scored 190 runs. SOCA displayed a brilliant batting form and chased the runs with ease, particularly Karun Jethi and Harpal Minhas. Karun was declared the Man of the match and Richie Anand from SOCA the tournament MVP. Congratulations to SOCA on a grand win. This has proven that we not only have great cricketers in the TDCA but also brilliant cricketers in other leagues of Ontario. This is great news for Ontario cricket.   I would particularly like to congratulate Mike Kendall. Not only must I congratulate him for the Elite tournament but also for the win by SOCA. This has proven that size does not matter but leadership is what counts. Mike congratulations for the win as the SOCA president. Your team only only displayed some fine cricketing skills and also gentlemenliness and true athletic spirit.   I must also congratulate TDCA for reaching the final. They did well to reach 190 after some initial set backs. Congratulations to Bhowan Persaud and John Lall for their management skills.   The awards were handed out by Mr. Navdeep Bains, the MP for the area. It was very kind of him to take the time from his busy schedule and attend our function.    Looking forward to more tournaments like this in the future.   Regards,   Gullu Bajwa
